Healthy Creations Cafe at 376 North El Camino Real, Encinitas, California.

SADLY A DISAPPOINTING EXPERIENCE! This cafe was recommended to us by someone very familiar with the business so we decided to try it out for lunch last Saturday.It's an old school look cafe with a bit of outdoor seating.When my wife and I walked in about 12.30pm there were a few diners enjoying lunch. We lined up at the counter to place our order for 2 Salted Caramel Lattes and a Turkey & Brie Panini to share.A guy named Ryan explained they only have whole milk and not the non-fat variety we requested so we went with the whole milk.We also bought a freshly baked choc chip cookie and a sliced half loaf of multi grain bread.After paying our bill we sat at a table close to the front counter waiting for our lattes.Time went by and after over 10 minutes there were no lattes in sight.I enquired to the woman behind the counter who seemed to be in charge of the huge espresso machine.Mary asked Ryan about our lattes and Ryan didn't have a clue so Mary said she would get on it straight away.After another 5 minutes one of our lattes was ready in a paper cup.For some reason the cup choice here is a paper take out or a stainless steel have in.....never seen stainless steel cups used in a cafe in my life.Another 5 minutes or more and our 2nd Salted Caramel Latte we finally ready.In the meantime our Turkey & Brie Panini had arrived.Now let me explain if you are not aware that this cafe bakes it's own gluten free organic bread and the panini we ordered came on house made gluten free Focaccia bread which was toasted...this description appealed to us quite a bit. The panini halves which sat on the plates in front of us looked like they had been run over by a steamroller.When I took a bite of the sandwich the focaccia bread tasted like a wet ceramic tile.....the filling tasted ok but was very melted and very hot.I have to assume that the focaccia bread they make is about an inch thick which is at least the norm.Our panini bread was barely a quarter of an inch thick and totally flavorless.It obviously had been panini pressed to death by a gorilla.Our lattes tasted about average having obviously been made by an untrained barista. The large freshly baked chocolate chip cookie tasted soft and boring.We used the gluten free organic multi grain bread for our breakfast at home the next day.We toasted it like the instructions suggested and added our lovely scrambled eggs.Keeping in mind that the sliced half loaf cost $6.50 then it was a big flavorless disappointment....and a waste of money. We understand completely that this cafe touts itself as a gluten free eatery but we have eaten much much better tasting gluten free fare at The Curious Fork in Del Mar and we are not gluten intolerant. We like good tasting food,well made coffees and efficient service wherever we go.We won't be back here that's for sure.
